Motley Rice attorney Kevin Dean elected to serve in leadership for South Carolina's largest association of lawyers

Member Attorney Kevin R. Dean was nominated to the Board of Governors Executive Committee for the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) at the 2022 annual meeting of members. He will serve as one of four non-officer members for the 2022-2023 term.

“It’s an honor to serve in this leadership role,” said Dean. “SCAJ plays a critical role in protecting the rights of all South Carolina residents. I look forward to working alongside other Officers and Governors to act as a resource for our members and advocate for fair and just decisions in the courts.”

SCAJ is a membership organization comprised of over 1,400 attorneys across the state. The organization serves as a valuable resource, advocating for those who are harmed by others and seeking to hold wrongdoers accountable.

“We appreciate Kevin’s commitment to the fight for justice and are grateful for his service to the Association and on the Executive Committee” said SCAJ President Jennifer Burnett.
Kevin has embraced the mission of SCAJ throughout his career, representing victims and families affected by hazardous consumer products, vehicle defects, occupational and industrial accidents, fires, premise injuries and other incidents of negligence. He currently represents clients harmed by contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and consumers who purchased or leased vehicles with allegedly defective ARC airbag inflators.

Over the past decade he has played an integral role in litigation related to defective Takata airbags, Volkswagen’s “Clean Diesel” emissions fraud, and GM’s alleged misconduct regarding defective ignition switches. Following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion, Kevin served as a member of the oil spill MDL’s GCCF Jurisdiction & Court Oversight Workgroup and represented victims in the claims programs established by the two BP.

Kevin earned a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law and a B.A. from Valdosta State University. In addition to SCAJ leadership, he serves as chair of the GA Trial Lawyers Association Tort & Negligence Committee, is on the Board of Directors for the Attorneys Information Exchange Group (AIEG) and is a member of both the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and the Southern Trial Lawyers Association.
